With all this talk of summer bucket lists lately, I thought I’d write one on my daughter’s behalf. So here’s what I can gather it would look like, based on the first official week of summer break together!
A five year old’s summer bucket list:
1. RUN IN FLIPPERS
Yup, it’s summer. So naturally I hear;
“watch how fast I can run in these flippers!’
*immediately falls on face*
Welcome to summer!

2. COMPLETE THE TOUGH MUDDER – LIVING ROOM STYLE
When you walk into own living room to reluctantly observe it has become a giant obstacle course of over turned objects and furniture. Then child rushes past, rebounds off a plastic storage bin – sails thru air onto cushions hollering, “I am the toughest mudder!!!”

3. SAVE THE WORLD THIS SUMMER (POSSIBLY LEARN TO FLY)
“Once and for all the world won’t be hopeless anymore!!!” said with every ounce of gusto and five year old bravado.
“Uh what are you doing?”
“Saving the world!”
“How?”
“I will save the day by jumping over this.”
“That plastic bin?!”
“Yes”
CRASH BANG BOOM
Nothing to hear but a winded, “Oops. The world is still hopeless, turns out I can’t fly.”

4. GET A SUMMER JOB
Concerned mother inquires:
“Hey that’s not safe – why are you trying to balance on that?!”
Determined child replies:
“My job is to fix the world and make it a better place by balancing on this teetering bucket.”
(One could wonder how much that pays an hour….)

5. BECOME A SUPERHERO
“What do you say superhero – get your wiggle on and get your gear on!”
On repeat for two hours.
Though it does appear that she has indeed developed some form of super human, ‘wiggling’ superpowers (still at a loss as to a scenario where this proves useful…).

6. MAKE A NEW FRIEND
“Mom – can you get me Utopia?”
“Wow Utopia! That’s kind of a big subject for a five year old!”
“Not really. I love Utopia!”
“Really?!”
“Yes, now can you please pass me my Utopia!”
“You’ve named your balloon Utopia haven’t you?!”
“Yes.”
Of course you have. How did I not put this together sooner.
Next week: world domination…
or swimming. Swimming is good too.
Want to reminisce about her four year old shenanigans here ?!
