A Homemade Copycat Peanut Buster Parfait

So sometimes during self isolation your stressed out husband turns to you and says “I could really go for Dairy Queen’s Peanut Buster Parfait right now.” So, you reply “I bet making hot fudge sauce might not be too hard.” Because you know Pinterest has your back!

So a brief search turns up a screen shot of an old recipe for fudge sauce from the paper. You half the amount and try it out. It’s terrific. A little too good because you all finish off the ice cream. But now you have a jar of fudge sauce in the fridge calling everyone’s quarantined name, but no ice cream. Well come on Pinterest, lets find a dairy queen ice cream hack…

vanilla ice cream

And low and behold another newspaper clipping from 1988 with an ice cream recipe. It appears that gelatin is the ‘secret’ ingredient. You surprise everyone (even yourself) by having a box of gelatin in the cupboard. So the following day, you get busy trying out a half recipe for after dinner.

The Moment of Parfait Truth

It quite was a noisy dinner as the ice cream maker serenaded us. But the moment of truth arrived. And as everyone layered vanilla ice cream, hot fudge sauce and salted peanuts into their parfaits, it became quickly evident we had a hit on our hands. Even to my often picky about my own creations self – it tasted just like the real thing. Once the sauce, ice cream and salted peanuts came together I would not have been able to tell the difference!

And For People Who Think Blog Posts Write Themselves

And the family loved it.
Husband: “Have you written a blog post about this?!”
Me: “No. I literally just made it.”
Oldest Daughter: “Oh mom you have to write a blog post about this.”
Youngest Daughter: “Everyone stuck at home will want to eat this.”

And of course the clincher, “Can I have more?!”

So, I guess who am I to deny such things?
