Eiffel tower sugar cookies came about when I began taking french classes when my oldest entered kindergarten in french immersion. Partially because I have always wanted to learn and mostly because it seemed like a poor idea to one day have a child (even a teenager – gulp-) that spoke a language I didn’t!
French Lessons
I loved my classes and I have especially enjoyed wandering around the local campus after hours. It didn’t hurt that it was also a couple hours a week with only adults, out of the house on my own either! As my classes progressed (and my french improved by baby steps) one of my assignments was to write out a recipe in french. Delighted to have a task that was right up my alley, I quickly found this to be just the excuse I needed to try out the Eiffel Tower cookie cutter, that my mother-in-law had given us.
Directions
I started off creating these Eiffel tower sugar cookies with my favourite (read: easiest ever!) sugar cookie recipe found here. And yes I did actually translate it into french!
Once they were rolled out, cut into shapes and baked, I let them cool completely.
Then I made up icing in pink, turquoise and white. I like using this easy icing recipe found here.
I dipped each cookie into the desired hue of icing and allowed them to set up on a cooling rack.
Once the cookies had hardened and set, I used Wilton Sparkle Gel in black and drew on all the details. Finally adding a silverette cake decoration to the top of each.
Then I made sure to allow the cookies time to dry. I find the Wilton Sparkle Gel never fully loses its stickiness, so these cookies are best not stacked on top of each other.
But they sure were a hit in class!
Et voila – ils ont fini!
