It has come to my attention that I like popcorn more than a little. So I would like to take this moment to publicly declare my love for popcorn and it’s many forms! Yes popcorn. Of course popcorn. I am pretty sure you all knew that was where I was going with that one!
My love of popcorn is basically no secret. I can not turn down popcorn. It is hands down my favourite snack and I like it just about any way! Even ways that I don’t really like, I still like. Of course I have my favourites – just like everyone. But if popcorn turns up, I just can’t say no… it’s like I have a separate stomach for popcorn! Yup – you get the point – I really do love popcorn!! As a self professed popcorn affienado I have tried many a popcorn and topping in my time. So incase you need a snacking obsession like mine, here are some of the best of the best (in my humble opinion) ways to prepare popcorn:
Air popped w/ butter, salt and nutritional yeast – current fave!!!
Traditional – butter, and salt
Traditional mixed with Smarties (sweet and salty) *The Hubster introduced me to this*
Truffle butter (or oil) popcorn (seriously, seriously fabulous and a little indulgent) – it has this high/low thing going on-
Microwave Popcorn
Caramel Corn (quick microwave and traditional ). Traditional is my first choice, but have recipes for both.
Chicago Style (cheese and caramel popcorn mix) – thank you gigantic Costco sized bag
Cinnamon and Sugar (Churro) Popcorn
Kettle Corn
I have even had/made peanut butter and jelly popcorn (yum).
Believe it or not my least favourite popcorn is movie popcorn, but of course I muscle through when faced with an evening at the theatres…
Yeah – I wasn’t kidding, I adore popcorn. I could eat it everyday (but believe it or not, I actually don’t snack everyday…. but in a perfect pro-snacking world, I would have popcorn at my beck and call at all times). And yes I have been known to have it for dinner (especially when my family is not around)… a cup of tea helps make it a well rounded meal.
New to air popped corn or nutritional yeast?
Here is my fave way to prepare Air Popped Popcorn:
We have an old air popper, that my mother in law procured for us at a garage sale. Everyone has their preference in method of popping corn – but mine has to be this air popped way.
Basic Air Popped Popcorn:
1/2 Cup Popcorn Kernels
1/4 Cup Melted Butter
1/2 – 1 Teaspoon Salt (depending on preference)
1 Tablespoon Nutritional Yeast (optional)*
*Nutritional Yeast has a buttery, salty, parmesan like taste to it and really belongs on popcorn in my opinion.
Directions:
Add popcorn kernels to air popper and turn on/plug in. Place a large bowl in front of spout (this can get little crazy – with popping kernels).
Melt butter. Once finished popping, immediately add half the melted butter to the warm popcorn and liberally sprinkle with salt. Toss.
Add remaining butter and sprinkle with nutritional yeast (if using) and salt. Enjoy.
