We love summer and spending time with our family on the sunshine coast. It’s hard to beat an afternoon at the beach with cousins! Enjoying time on the coast together has become a bit of a summer tradition and so has coming up with a fun summertime activity that everyone can participate in and make some good memories creating. This year my sister in law and I decided that activity would be rock painting!
Rock Painting Fun
And boy was it fun. Of course my favourite part was seeing everyones different ideas and colours. So much differing inspiration and hours and hours of fun!!! And now we all get to smile each time we walk past our garden adorned with our very own rock artwork.
This is a relatively simple and cheap activity for kids and adults alike and makes for a fun and unique afternoon art activity.
What you need for Rock Painting (we found it all at a local dollar store en route to the beach) :
Paint brushes, with bristles, in various sizes (small tip ones for details)
Paint in assorted colours
Mod Podge (for sealing the rocks after)
Foam brush
Googley eyes
Glue
Water (for rinsing brushes)
Step 1:
Choose rock that are smooth and flat for painting. And clean and dry.
Step 2:
Coat the surface of the rock in white paint and allow to dry.
This is optional, it makes for more truer colours when painting, than the colour of the rock affecting the hue being painted on. We did some of both, depending on the look we were going for.
Step 3:
Paint whatever your heart desires.
Be inspired by the ocean.
The sea creatures.
Pinterst.
Your love of nature.
Whatever your heart may fancy.
Step 4:
Let dry. Which is really quick in the sun on a hot day!
Step 5:
Add details with more paint, a sharpie or even glue on eyes.
Step 6:
Allow to dry overnight and then give everything a generous coat of Mod Podge with a foam brush to seal everything. Allow to dry completely for 24 hours.
Stand back and admire your handy work!
